2016 CILNCF Year End Campaign

Dear Friends of the Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida,

In reviewing our past year’s accomplishments, the CILNCF served over 2,500 individuals with disabilities through our various services and programs such as Wheelchair Ramp Building, Sign Language Interpreting, ADA Paratransit Screenings, High School High Tech, Vocational Evaluations and Employment.

The achievements from this past year highlight the CILNCF’s 35 year history of being the area’s leading DisAbility Resource Center. Today, we are launching our 2016 Year End Campaign, to raise funds for our Wheelchair Ramp Program that installs wheelchair ramps at no cost for people who live in poverty, who need to access their home, and cannot afford a ramp.

Imagine the impact on your life if you used a wheelchair and could not access or leave your home. It would be difficult to work, access quality health care, go to school, and be included in community life.  Unfortunately, there is a waiting list of more than 100 local residents who are in need of wheelchair ramps.  Through this campaign, we are reaching out to the community and asking for your support to help us build even more ramps in 2017, such as the ramp we built for Cher.

For over a year, Cher’s son had to lift her to get in and out of her own home. There were many times Cher could not leave her apartment because there was no one to help.  Through our program, the CILNCF helped Cher receive a newly built ramp and get her independence back.

Cher is one small example of how the CILNCF helps individuals with disabilities with limited financial means and opportunities. 100% of every dollar donated to this endeavor will be used towards the material expenses for building a ramp.

We kindly ask that you give the gift of independence because it will make a profound difference in the lives of people with disabilities, especially during the holidays.

If you would like to make tax deductable donation to our campaign, please make your donation payable to: The Center for Independent Living and mail us at:  222 SW 36th Terrace, Gainesville, FL  32607.  You can also donate by visiting: https://www.cilncf.org/contribute/ on our website.

Thank you for your continued support and friendship!

Sincerely,

Tony Delisle, PhD

Get out and VOTE!

Election Day is almost here!  Check out these interesting statistics about people with disabilities and voting:

A political profile of people with disabilities

Voting is your voice, so let your voice be heard on November 8th, or now with the convenience of early voting from October 24th through November 5th!

Halloween is not the only spooky thing happening in this country today.  So many people with disabilities do not vote and have their voices heard, or complain about the system, but do not vote to try and change it…and that is definitely something scary!  Please do not be a frightening statistic; get out and vote!

“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.”

CILNCF participating in the University of Florida Campaign for Charities

The University of Florida Campaign for Charities (UFCC) is the annual employee giving campaign.  All UF, UAA and UFF employees can participate by making charitable donations though payroll deduction, cash, check, credit card or stock contribution.  For the last 11 years, UF employees have given almost $1 million annually to charities serving our region!

Once again, the CILNCF is a participating agency this year.  Donate to us through the UFCC and not only can you enjoy the ease of payroll deduction for your donation, but with the addition of undesignated funds your dollars are leveraged – last year individual donations increased 35%!  That means when you donate $100 to our agency, $135 is actually received by our agency!  The campaign will run until October 21st and all donations received through the UFCC will benefit our Wheelchair Ramp Building Program and Five-Core Services.  Learn more at www.ufcc.ufl.edu

Not a UF employee?  Well this year there are even more ways to participate!  UFCC is utilizing a crowdfunding site called “CrowdRise” to increase participation in the UFCC.  This addition allows all individuals to participate in the Campaign for Charities whether or not they are employed by UF.  Gifts through this platform will be credited to the undesignated portion of the campaign and divided among all the agencies based on the percentage of their participation in the campaign.

To make an immediate DONATION to the UFCC campaign and support all the participating agencies, go to https://www.crowdrise.com/university-of-florida1 and click “DONATE” to complete the process.

SPECIAL THANKS to all of our past and present UFCC donors!!  We have truly appreciated your support throughout the years!  Your donations are helping us continue to empower people with disabilities to live as independently as possible!
